My first peat sculpture was made at the Peat Art Festival in Eleja (Jelgava county). I worked with this material for the first time, I really liked it because the woodcarving skills I once gained at Valka School of Art and Riga School of Crafts – now Riga Art and Media Technical School (RMMT). At this school, we were not allowed to use sandpaper. With a sharp tool, we had to cut with absolute precision at once. This made it possible to save time and produce nearly shiny surface without sanding and polishing when making peat sculpture.
